recognize the contributions of these honorees:
The Visionary
Leadership Award
For their creativity
in shining a light on the abilities of people with disabilities, we honor the
Fox hit show, “Glee”. The show, about an underdog glee club,
has taken on “the responsibility of showing the truth of the pain that
outcasts go through,” according to creator Ryan Murphy. This was remarkably evident in their
funny, poignant and illuminating episode entitled, “Wheels”,
written by Murphy, which revealed the daunting challenges faced by series
regular Artie, who is confined to a wheelchair. Overcoming emotional and physical
disabilities was the central theme of this episode, which gave viewers the
opportunity to walk their own misconceptions and bias across a bridge towards
understanding, compassion and honor… something Shane’s
Inspiration’s Together, We Are Able Education Program endeavors to
do. Nominated for four Golden
Globe awards, “Glee” creators and producers Ryan Murphy,
Brad Falchuk, and Ian
Brennan; executive producer Dante Di
Loreto; and director Paris Barclay
have creatively and courageously portrayed the journey that people with
disabilities face every day.
Because “Wheels” so brilliantly depicts the very spirit of
our mission and shares it with millions of viewers, Shane’s Inspiration
gleefully honors the show “Glee” with our Visionary Leadership
Award.
The Design
Leadership Award
Over the last twelve
years, Shane’s Inspiration has been blessed to partner with some truly
exceptional companies in our creation of our one-of-a-kind sensory walls. One such company is Lexington
Design + Fabrication. Lexington is a full-service, creative design and custom fabrication
company known for its expertise in producing a wide variety of projects that
require complex technical design and inspirational experiences. Their impressive client list includes
Aquarium of the Pacific, Los Angeles Skirball, and Childrens Hospital Los Angeles, just to name a few. Led by President and C.E.O., Richard Bencivengo and C.O.O., Frank Bencivengo,
Lexington has partnered with Shane’s Inspiration to create
unique sensory walls that provide a rare opportunity for a child with sensory
disabilities to join in the play experience alongside their typically able
peers. The addition of these
elements is truly reinventing the paradigm of sensory play for so many
children. Lexington has taken it one step further by committing to contribute
a percentage of the proceeds from each wall to support the programming efforts
at Shane’s Inspiration. We
salute the leadership at Lexington for their partnership in serving the needs of children of all
abilities with our Design Leadership Award.
