PARQUE DE LOS SUEÑOS
1333 SOUTH BONNIE BEACH PLACE
LOS ANGELES, CA 90023
OPENED OCTOBER 2, 2004
Buckle in and rocket to the moon at our space-themed Universally Accessible Playground at Parque De Los Sueños in East Los Angeles.
- The colorful planetary equipment features an interactive shuttle with movable controls, steering instruments, and wide wings for climbing – offering children with disabilities the opportunity to practice balance, eye-hand coordination, and upper body strengthening, among other activities.
- Older children can go for a space walk along sturdy netting and hubs provide the ideal gathering places for interplanetary chatting and stargazing through periscopes – both of which encourage communication skills and coordination.
- A fully-accessible 3-foot-high maze provides hours of active and imaginative play. And for children with developmental delays, sound pucks embedded in the playground encourage auditory stimulation and discovery.
The opening day of this wonderful park marked our second Universally Accessible Playground in East Los Angeles as well as the annual Worldwide Day of Play. This event is a key part of Nickelodeon’s “Let’s Just Play” national multi-media campaign and grassroots effort to encourage positive, physically active, healthy, and playful lifestyles for our children. On this day, cities all across America roll up their sleeves and get down to the serious work of play.
Parque de los Sueños came about thanks to the combined efforts of Supervisor Gloria Molina, The County of Los Angeles, the Los Angeles Department of Parks and Recreation, the Community Development Commission and Shane’s Inspiration.
